Orthopedic surgeries performed at Newburgh Veterinary Hospital are anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair, tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA), patellar luxation, bone pinning, bone plating, hip surgery, general bone and joint surgery, elbow surgery, and pelvic fractures.

Cryosurgery
Cryosurgery is also used at Newburgh Veterinary as a way to rapidly freeze tissue in order to destroy unwanted skin lesions. This is done by applying nitrous oxide to the pet's lesion. The tissue will scab or 'crust' over within the next few days and simply fall off within the next 14 days. Many will recognize this as similar to human medicine for wart removal.
Advantages of cryotherapy are that there is no sedation or anesthesia needed, there is little discomfort, treatments are quick (5-30 seconds), safe, and effective, and there is no skin preparation or after care necessary. Using this ultra-precise tool, our veterinarians have so much pinpoint accuracy that lesions around the eyes can be treated as well.

We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Anesthesia is individualized for each pet based upon a number of factors including the type of procedure, pre-existing conditions, blood test values, age, breed and prior anesthetic experience.
